‘Scream’
Oil Pastel
on printer alignment paper
Made
2024
This piece was inspired by Gina Birch ‘3 Minute Scream’ 1977 at the Women in Revolt! exhibition at Tate Britain, London. The power and energy released in this shot recording was such a relatable feeling; frustration, anger, fear, disgust, ecstasy, I can’t put my finger on how it made me feel other than pure energy. I drew this in one sitting on a scrap piece of printer alignment paper. The paper felt poignant to some of the elements of the exhibition, the disorder of the alignment lines as the printer tries to correct something fundamentally broken. The structure of these faulty lines are disguised by the overpowering voice of Birch’s scream, frozen on the paper’s surface; forever silently loud. we love her
