‘Self Portrait 2’

‘Self Portrait 2’ was the first piece I made in this indefinite series using re-purposed waste materials. Like ‘Self Portrait’ which came after ‘Self Portrait 2’ (named 2 because this was a rougher test), I wanted to create a fast self portrait with a limited palette. Using the old package box was a challenge due to the white sticker which the pastel didn’t stick well too. However, the white label does something to the eyes and makes them stand out, drawing you into what they’re saying. This was a really fun practice and I enjoyed using a limited pallet, both to remove overwhelming colour options and having complimenting colours created a harmonious image. Very pleased.
