‘Tulips’

Oil Pastel
on ‘FRAGILE’ printed vinyl packaging

‘Tulips’ was originally a loose sketch, which can be seen woven between the thickly layer pastel marks. I chose a selected range of colours that closely matched the tulips I was drawing from. It was a really fun and freeing piece to create, reducing my perfectionist noise and focussing on releasing the colour onto the surface without thought. I have found a lot of success in this approach, allowing my hand to work faster than my head creates magic. I love the juxtaposition of the FRAGILE print in the disrupting red, alerting you to the flower’s delicate forms. I feel the label evokes the fleeting nature of flowers, a gift with so many meanings; love, loss, hate, grief. The label is a message bonding one to another, knowing this message will eventually wilt and loose their passion. slay
